Crepes in Aspen

To live near a local creperie is not a privilege. It's a right. Yet Aspen, summer and winter home to some of the most experienced and wealthiest foodies, had no such establishment until this past winter when Creperie Du Village came to town.

The black and maroon high-top tables and black leather couches are framed in worn wood to create a relaxed and funky decor that transitions patrons from strawberry, banana, nutella crepes in the morning to late-night fondu and drinks in the evening.

Cinnamon apple crepes are a dime a dozenexcept in Aspen, of course. Regardless, I opted to satisfy my immense savory-tooth with the Magic Mushroom crepe and the French Connection.
MAGIC MUSHROOM
THE FRENCH CONNECTION
The two crepes look similar. Most likely because they are.

The Magic Mushroom has wild mushrooms, spinach, herbs, and mornay sauce; the French Connection, beef bourguignon stew and herbs. The concentrated, syrupy balsamic-glaze zigzag is no garnish; it's a statement from which no bite can escape, like that person you're trying to pass on the sidewalk who you just can't seem to get around. The sugar attack from the balsamic reduction locks all the flavors under its spell, and then keeps them there. Where's my beef? I don't know. I'm too distracted by a strengthening pain behind my eyes.

Both crepes are very rich, so I recommend sharing a few among friends while enjoying the scene. If you're searching for a hearty, satisfying meal, then just head over to Ajax for a burger.
